Nenagh AFC 'B' U-12's - Rearcross U-12's 5

Rearcross U-12's travelled to Nenagh Brickfields for their first competitive league encounter and came from behind to win 5-2 against the home side. The visitors were slow to settle and found themselves two in arrears after eight minutes of play, the first coming on four minutes with a rocket of a shot to the top corner which was followed four minutes later with another well struck goal. Cathal Kennedy was also in the action with a reflex save to keep the Rea boys in the game and then Sean Malone intervened with a well time tackle. Rearcross slowly but surely started to work their way in to the game and came close following a Patrick Dawson corner kick and then seconds later the ball somehow stayed out following a goal mouth scramble. Nenagh AFC threatened again when Jamie Kennedy's free kick was on the mark, however Cathal Kennedy punched clear. Rearcross counter attacked and Patrick Dawson's low drive was on the mark, however Cathal O'Brien in the Nenagh goal was equal to the effort and made the save. The visitors made a strong finish to the half and brought it back to the minimum when Cillian Kennedy set Patrick Dawson through who made no mistake with a low belter to the back of the net. It was all square three minutes later when Patrick Dawson broke on the right before sending his second of the outing inside the post in what was a superb effort. Rearcross dominated for long spells in the second half and came close in the opening six minutes with efforts from Stephen Rochford and Cillian Kennedy with Cathal O'Brien in the Nenagh goals also very much to the fore with some fine goalkeeping. The Rea boys hit the front on 33 minutes when Stephen Rochford's corner kick fell to Paul Nolan who whipped the ball to the back of the net. The host weren't finished though and Cathal Kennedy had to be sharp to save two minutes later. Rearcross stretched their advantage to 4-2 with twelve minutes remaining after Colm Lenihan took full advantage to prod inside the near upright. The visitors kept pressing before Stephen Rochford made it 5-2 seven minutes from time with a fine individual goal. The woodwork then denied Stephen Rochford his second of the outing and in the dying moments the Nenagh shot stopper produced a fine save to deny Stephen Rochford again, although it mattered little at that stage as Rearcross had done enough to secure the away victory.
